At least once every few months I like to put together a styled shoot. It helps to keep my creative juices flowing by producing every aspect of the shoot. I love BHLDN gowns. I am downright obsessed with them and they do not pay me to say so! After I picked my model, the delightful and clever Kalyn, I picked out the dress which she claimed would be very close to the dress she might wear on her wedding day, God willing. It fits well on her tall, slender frame while giving it some nice curves. I wanted to shoot at The Calamigos Ranch, which has a vintage, dreamy quality to several of its hidden spots including the ferris wheel, the carousel, and the hidden garden with two-story mirrors outside.

We peeked into an old barn that almost no one looks inside of, only to discover a broken down carriage- what a lucky find! It was so rich with atmosphere and fit in well with the other locations. We kept her make-up natural, with slightly smokey eyes. With her hair down, and her naturally chiseled facial bone structure, we didn't want to overdo it. One thing I suggest to my brides is to not go overboard with their make-up, since half of the day will typically be in natural, outdoor lighting. You can always add on to eyes and lips later in the evening. I made the bouquet myself. I wanted it to have a unique and somewhat surreal look, so I included the proteas with dahlias and small roses. The end result ins fun, joyful, glamorous without pretension, and playful. I tried different positioning with my model that will carry over into my work with real brides. It was worth the three days of work to sharpen my "tools"! I hope you enjoy the images.
